LA SAMPLE 1 - from 10/11/12
Moving Beyond the Page: Interview with a person from another culture. Trevor wrote his own questions and put the answers in a paragraph format.

Trevor conducted the interview well with good questions that shows his understanding of different cultures around the world.  He wrote answers, then he converted them to a paragraph with complete sentences.

b. What does the student need to improve or work on next?
Trevor will next work on practicing this with more consistent spacing between words and penmanship.
These are his planning questions for a friend named Chuck who lives in Hong Kong.

LA SAMPLE 2 - from 10/4/13

Writing Wizards Workshop: Write and informative paper about apples using 4-square method.
Trevor wrote about apples.

a. What did the student do well?
Trevor wrote in cursive well which helped his word spacing.

b. What does the student need to improve or work on next?
Trevor is overwhelmed by spelling, but encouraged by writing his thoughts in cursive.   He is very strong speaker and expresses his thoughts with an amazing vocabulary, and is only hindered by the labor of putting pencil to paper.   So, he just needs more practice in short bursts that give him confidence and increased ability.

LA SAMPLE 3 - from 10/30/13

See Raz-Kids for reading samples. Trevor finished the aa section of Raz Kids reading.  It was too easy for him, but he reads many higher level books for pleasure.  It just feels like a waste of time for us.  I may change this.

a. What did the student do well?
Trevor finished all of aa division books.  He listened to, read, and finished a quiz for the last 5 books in the A division.
This week he told me "I was REALLY reading the newspaper." He sat on the couch and read bout the Bronco's loss.

b. What does the student need to improve or work on next?
Trevor needs practice sounding out longer words.  He is an excellent reader but writing is still not easy for him.  He desires to write in cursive, so I let him.  He actually has much better penmanship in that format.  His spelling is rarely accurate, but every word shows that he is listening for spelling sound correspondences and,. when prompted, he can employ the spelling rules he knows like using an e to make the long vowel sound. We will be concentrating on sight words--- especially in memorizing their spelling.
